About the branding

Finding the right message behind restorative justice

As part of the journey of developing the Restorative Justice New Zealand brand on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, Simply Resolution engaged Taputapu. They were asked to conceptualise the Simply Resolution mission for Restorative Justice:

"Connect people and communities to navigate the path to Restorative Justice, one step at a time."

The logo should capture New Zealand, our people and restoration.

The chosen concept from Taputapu

This concept draws inspiration from the harakeke plant, embodying themes of community, whānau, and support. The design elements reflect the folds of harakeke leaves, echoing throughout the typography and edges of the concept. At its core, this tohu encapsulates a symbiotic relationship between a maunga and water. The water symbolises a restorative and wayfinding journey, representing pathways toward growth and development. Meanwhile, the maunga stands as a steadfast symbol of strength, guiding towards the realization of goals at journey's end.

The warm colour palette is inspired by the hues of the whēnua, radiating strength and stability. These colours not only speak to the physical act of construction but also convey the importance of laying strong foundations—both metaphorically and literally.
